<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an alkylbenzene hydroperoxide by which the alkylbenzene hydroperoxide is produced economically in high yield. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method for producing the alkylbenzene hydroperoxide comprises the following steps and an oxidized aqueous phase formed in a recovery step is recycled to an oxidation step, wherein the oxidation step is a step of preparing an oxidation reaction liquid containing the alkylbenzene hydroperoxide by oxidizing an alkylbenzene with an oxygen-containing gas in the presence of an aqueous solution containing a water-soluble imide compound represented by general formula (I) and/or formula (II) (wherein, R<SB>1</SB>, R<SB>2</SB>, R<SB>3</SB>and R<SB>4</SB>are each independently a hydrogen atom, a 1C-20C hydrocarbon group, a sulfone group, an amino group, a hydroxy group, a carboxy group, a nitro group of a halogen, with the proviso that R<SB>1</SB>and R<SB>2</SB>and/or R<SB>3</SB>and R<SB>4</SB>may form a ring); the recovery step is a step of separating the oxidation reaction liquid into an oil phase containing the alkylbenzene hydroperoxide, and the aqueous phase; and the recycle step; and the recycling step is a step of recycling at least a part of the aqueous phase to the oxidation step.
