1,188,781. Boundary layer control. CHEVRON RESEARCH CO. 10 Jan., 1968 [11 Jan., 1967], No. 1511/68. Heading F2R. A method of transporting crude oil through a pipe-line by injecting a mixture of crude oil and an aqueous solution of non-ionic surfactant into the pipe-line to contact the crude oil and to effect a flowing pressure drop decrease in the pipe-line and thereafter reducing the flow of surfactant solution being injected into the pipeline to less than 5% of the crude oil concurrently injected into the pipe-line to maintain the flowing pressure drop decrease. The injected aqueous solution forms with the oil an oil-in-water emulsion at the initial stage, thereafter the flow being reduced may be to 2% of the flow of oil, or even nothing. The surfactants may have ether or esther linkages and may be dissolved in distilled, tap or seawater. A separation tank may be provided at the outlet of the pipe to separate the oil from the solution.
|
