<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline primary battery for enhancing an electricity capacity and a method for manufacturing the same. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the flat alkaline primary battery 1 housing a cathode mixture 5, an anode mixture 7 and an electrolyte in a case 8, the cathode mixture 5 contains nickel oxyhydroxide with a surface coated by γ-cobalt oxyhydroxide as a cathode main active material as well as crosslinking polyacrylic acid as a liquid holding agent for holding the electrolyte and fluororesin powder as a binding agent.
