PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sealed battery with a case and a sealing plate which ensures good welding and prevents scuffing. SOLUTION: The sealed battery includes: a square case having an opening 32 configured to have a pair of long-side portions 34 and a pair of short-side portions 36; and the sealing plate 10 placed in the opening of the case, wherein the case and the sealing plate are joined by welding from a side of the case. In the battery, a fitting salient 14 entering the inside of the case and contacting with a part of the inner wall of the case is formed on the back surface placed on the inside of the case in the sealing plate, while being in close contact with the central portion of the pair of long-side portions in the fitting salient and an opening periphery, a clearance 20 is secured between both ends of the pair of long-side portions and the pair of short-side portions, and the thickness of the case in the opening periphery in the section in which the clearance is secured is larger than that of the center of at least the pair of long-side portions of the close contact part.
