PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an abnormality determination device for a variable valve train accurately determining the abnormality of the variable valve train by suppressing erroneous determination. SOLUTION: This abnormality determination device for the variable valve train includes the variable valve train 12, a control shaft 14, and an actuator moving the control shaft 14. The variable valve train 12 changes the operating angle of an intake valve 10 according to movement of the control shaft 14. A rotation sensor 26 detects rotation of the actuator. A position sensor 28 outputs step-like output according to a change in the position of the control shaft 14. An ECU 50 determines the presence or absence of abnormality of the variable valve train 12 based on output from the rotation sensor 26 and the sampling values of the output from the position sensor 28.
