PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus for further reducing power consumption in a sleep mode without requiring a sub power source, and also, surely returning to a normal mode according to an instruction input of a user. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 1 includes: engine sections 46 for forming an image on a medium; a main power source 41 for supplying power to the engine sections 46; a CPU 53 that stops supply of power from the main power source 41 when the predetermined sleep conditions are satisfied, and then, shifts from the normal mode to the sleep mode; a power generation SW 31 that generates an electric signal in response to the user's manual operation, without receiving power supply from the outside; and a sleep control unit 43 that resumes the supply of power from the main power source 41 when the power generation SW 31 generates the electric signal in the sleep mode, and then, returns from the sleep mode to the normal mode.
