In a signal transmitting means for a hydraulic regulator in which a servo-cylinder 28 is controlled by varying pressure differences between two gas suction conduits 10, 10<SP>1</SP> and the inlets of the conduits are throttled by rigidly connected valves 37, 37<SP>1</SP>, each suction conduit is connected to a chamber 44 through a branch conduit containing a check valve 50 and has a flexible portion 47 at its inlet and carried by a movable wall 45 of the chamber 44 which is connected to atmosphere through a narrow leakage opening 53 whereby movement of the valve 37 towards the inlet end in response to a rise in signal pressure from a unit 41 causes the wall 45 to oscillate and the servocylinder to produce an intermittent output movement. The fall in pressure in the conduit 10 due to the approach of the valve 37 opens the check valve 50 to contract the chamber 44 and displace the inlet end 47, restoring the pressure in the conduit 10 and closing the valve 50. The chamber 44 now gradually returns to its original position as air leaks into it through the opening 53 and the process is repeated until the signal pressure is equal to a reference pressure provided by a unit 39. If the signal pressure falls, a valve 37<SP>1</SP> is moved by the reference pressure towards the inlet end 47<SP>1</SP> of the suction conduit 10<SP>1</SP> to reverse the output movement from the servo-cylinder. When the end of the suction conduit 10 is throttled, a gear pump 7 draws oil from a reservoir 9 and supplies it through a valve 20 to the left end of the servo-cylinder 28 and to a piston 23<SP>1</SP> to lift valves 25<SP>1</SP> and 20<SP>1</SP>, providing communication between the right end of the servo-cylinder and an exhaust port 27<SP>1</SP>. Throttling of the conduit 10<SP>1</SP> due to a fall in signal pressure causes the pump 71 to supply oil to the right end of the servo-cylinder and to lift the valves 25 and 20. Needle valves 51, 54 enable the periods of movement and the intervals between movement of the servo-cylinder to be adjusted while valves 56, 56<SP>1</SP> provide manual control of the output movement. A double valve 58 may be opened to make the regulator inoperative.</p>
