The device (20) has a control unit (24) producing an activation signal i.e. base voltage, and receiving a monitoring signal i.e. variable voltage. A monitoring unit (22) produces the monitoring signal and receives the activation signal. A base signal i.e. constant voltage level, is applied between the control unit and the monitoring unit. An activation unit and the monitoring unit impress the activation and monitoring signals to the base signal, respectively. An electrical connection having voltage divider partial circuits (38, 48) is formed between the control and monitoring units. An independent claim is also included for a method for monitoring movements of a power-operated movable part e.g. door and gate, of a machine.
