The invention relates to a device (100) and method for producing bodies by polymerizing ethylenically unsaturated monomers and/or (pre)polymers (S). The device (100) comprises a first outer tank (110) having a first tank bottom (111) comprising a top side (112) which faces the inside of the first tank (110), and having a first side wall (114), wherein the side wall (114) and bottom (111) of the first tank (110) define the cavity of the first tank (110); and a second inner tank (120) having a second tank bottom (121) comprising a bottom side (122) which faces the outside of the second tank (120), and a second side wall (124), wherein the second inner tank (120) can be accommodated by the first outer tank, and characterized in that the bottom side of the bottom (123) of the second tank (120), which was accommodated by the first tank (110), and the top side of the bottom (111) of the first tank (110) form a chamber which is filled with liquid monomers and/or (pre)polymers (S) to be polymerized, so that at the start of the polymerization the second tank (120) is supported in a floating manner in the first tank (110) on the monomers and/or (pre)polymers (S). The method comprises using the device as a mold for polymerizing ethylenically unsaturated monomers and/or (pre)polymers (S) such that cast glass is obtained by the water bath method, in an autoclave, or by the air polymerization method. |
