<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: an image scanner that can shorten a recovery time from power saving status; an image formation apparatus; a control method; a control program; and a recording medium. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The size of an original in the main scanning direction is determined by an output of an image sensor, and the carriage is moved to a shunting position when the image scanner is shifted to the power saving mode. When the image scanner is shifted to the standby mode from the power saving mode, a white level adjustment is performed. When an original retaining member of the image scanner is closed, the carriage is moved to the standby position; and when the original retaining member is open, the carriage is moved to the original size detection position. When the light source is turned on and the carriage is being moved to the standby position in the sub-scanning direction, the original size is detected. Whether or not the carriage is at a correct shunting position is determined when the power saving mode is changed to the standby mode, and when the shunting position of the carriage is determined to be incorrect, error resetting is performed.
