摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an impact energy absorbing member 1 superior in handling and capable of stably deforming a tublar body 2 in a tube axis Z direction without buckling and deforming it. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The body 2 is formed integrally with deformable parts 3 and deformation control parts 4 being alternately laminated in the tube axis Z direction. The face of each deformation control part 4 in contact with the deformable part 3 is an inclined face 4a inclined to one side or the other side in the tube axis Z direction toward the radial outside of the body 2. Two selective inclined faces 4a adjacent to each other in the tube axis Z direction are inclined to mutually opposite sides toward the radial outside of the body 2 so that the deformable parts 3 are plastically deformed to the radial outside or inside of the body 2 concurrently with its compression and plastic deformation in the tube axis Z direction. On a boundary between each inclined face 3 and the deformable part 4, a shearing deformation accelerating layer 9 is formed to accelerate the shearing deformation of the inclined face 4a at the boundary-side end of the deformable part 3 when a certain or greater compressing load is input thereto.
