<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a linear motor that can thinned. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The linear motor 10 is equipped with stationary parts 2 having coil units 4a and 4b arranged separately from each other, a magnet 1 that has magnetic surfaces facing the coil units 4a and 4b and is movable on the coil units 4a and 4b in the direction of arrangement of the coil units 4a and 4b, a flat springs 3 that are attached to both ends of the arrangement of the coil units 4a and 4b and hold the magnet 1 at the initial position (the central part in a frame 2a), a magnetic fluid 5 set on the surface of the magnet 1, and a control unit 15 that reciprocates the magnet 1. The control unit 15 moves the magnet 1 from the initial position in the direction of energizing the flat springs 3 and then controls the magnet 1 to start reciprocation.
