The multi-stage gearbox comprises four planetary gear sets (P1,P2,P3,P4), which are arranged in a housing (G). Eight rotating shafts (1 to 8) including two drive shafts and six switching elements (03,04,14,18,26,57) including brakes and clutches are provided with the gearbox. The selective engagement effects and different transmission ratio between the drive shafts are such provided that nine forward gears and a backward gear are realized. A sun wheel of the planetary gear train is connected with the fourth shaft.
