PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation apparatus which can prevent a road on which a vehicle is not actually traveling from being stored as a travel history. SOLUTION: Each time the vehicle travels 50 m, the present position of the vehicle is detected by a present position unit 14. The present position of the vehicle is set by map matching, and is compared with map data stored in a DVD-ROM 111 to detect the road name of a road on which the vehicle is traveling. When the same road name is detected twice in succession, the road name is stored in a data storage section 19 as a travel history. When a road name is detected, but when the same road name is not detected twice in succession, on the other hand, the road name is not stored in the data storage section 19 as a travel history.
