<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an imidazolium salt required to have high purity in a high yield. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The production method includes the following steps: (1) a step to quarternize imidazole to obtain an imidazolium salt (A) and produce a reaction solution (C) containing a crude imidazolium salt (B) by an acid exchange reaction; (2) a step to obtain a crude imidazolium salt (B) by removing the solvent from the reaction solution (C); (3) a step to produce an alcohol solution (D) of the crude imidazolium salt (B); and (4) a step to place the alcohol solution (D) under a high pressure of 50-500 MPa in a high-pressure crystallizing apparatus and filter the imidazolium salt crystal (E) while decreasing the pressure at a pressure decreasing rate of 2-100 MPa/min.
