<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To position a regulating guide in a position corresponding to a recording medium width, by preventing the occurrence of a backlash between a rack gear and a pinion gear, by improving operability in the regulating guide, by constituting so as to restrict in the recording medium width direction and not to restrict in the carrying direction, in joining the regulating guide and a rack. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In a paper feeding mechanism in a recorder such as an ink jet, the joining between the regulating guide and the rack is constituted so as to restrict in the recording medium width direction and not to restrict in the carrying direction, to thereby improve operability of the regulating guide by restraining a variation in operation force for moving the regulating guide. The occurrence of the backlash is prevented between the rack gear and the pinion gear, and the regulating guide is surely positioned in a predetermined position corresponding to the recording medium width.
