<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a PDP of high definition, high luminance and a wide color reproduction range equipped with a green-color phosphor layer with degradation of light emission efficiency restrained thanks to improvement of discharge characteristics and enhancement of color purity of green color. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Of the PDP provided with a pair of substrates 101, 102 with a front side transparent arranged in opposition so as to form a discharge space 122 in between, barrier ribs 109 for partitioning the discharge space 122 in plural, electrode groups 103, 104, 107 arranged on the substrates so that discharge is generated at the discharge space 122 partitioned by the barrier ribs 109, and phosphor layers emitting light by the discharge, the phosphor layers are equipped with a green-color phosphor layer 110G made of a mixture of Zn<SB>2</SB>SiO<SB>4</SB>:Mn and BaMgAl<SB>10</SB>O<SB>17</SB>:Mn, with magnesium oxide coated on the surface of the Zn<SB>2</SB>SiO<SB>4</SB>:Mn, and at the same time, with a ratio of Mg elements to Si elements of 0.1 or more on the surface within 10 nm.
