<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To broaden the viewing angle of a display having a liquid lens. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The display element is mounted in a transmission-type display having a light source, and the display element includes: a cell having the liquid lens inside, transmits incident light from a light source and emits the light; an absorber which is formed, at a position at which the liquid lens focuses the incident light and absorbs the light; and a diffusion part which diffuses the light emitted from the cell.
