PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rice cooker for cooking delicious rice by sterilizing an object to be cooked inside a pot before cooking rice and then cooking the rice. SOLUTION: The rice cooker includes: a pot which has an opening and into which the object to be cooked is to be supplied; a rice cooker body 2 housing the pot; a freely openable and closable lid body 11 for covering the opening of the pot and the rice cooker body; heating means for heating and cooking the object to be cooked inside the pot; a controller for controlling the heating means and executing a series of rice cooking steps, and menu setting means for setting a rice cooking menu. By selecting the rice cooking menu in the rice cooking menu setting means, a series of rice cooking steps such as a water absorbing step, a start heating step, a boiling maintaining step and a steam step are successively executed. The lid body 11 is provided with sterilization means 14L for emitting sterilization light, and the controller, when a prescribed rice cooking menu is selected in the rice cooking menu selection means, makes the sterilization means emit the light in the water absorbing step to execute the sterilization treatment of the object to be cooked inside the pot and then executes the following rice cooking steps.
