An extension sensor (128) e.g. piezoresistive sensor element, is arranged between the two fastening points for detecting elongation of the sensor body. The sensor body has transmission elements e.g. cutting edges, for transmitting elongation of the internal combustion engine on the sensor body. An evaluation circuit is attached on the sensor body. An independent claim is also included for an internal combustion engine comprising a sensor element.
