Provided are a method for the promotion of branch formation, dwarfing and sterility of a plant and the formation of multiple flower buds.  Also provided is an agent for the promotion of branch formation and/or dwarfing and/or sterility and/or the promotion of multiple flower bud formation of a plant.  Phytoplasma are pathogenic microorganisms which induce the promotion of branch formation and/or dwarfing and/or sterility and/or the formation of multiple flower buds of a plant.  Transfer of a phytoplasma PAM765 peptide into a plant individual enables the promotion of branch formation and/or dwarfing and/or sterility and/or the promotion of multiple flower bud formation of the plant.  It is also possible to provide an agent for the promotion of branch formation and/or dwarfing and/or sterility and/or the promotion of multiple flower bud formation of a plant which contains the PAM765 peptide or a gene encoding the PAM765 peptide.
