PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem, wherein the use of a large diameter shaft is required when the sheave width and the sheave load are large, in a conventional hoisting device of a cantilever structure. SOLUTION: This hoisting device 1 of an elevator has a stator 4, formed by installing a stator core 3 on the inner periphery of a frame 2, and a rotor 11, formed by rotatably supporting the shaft 6 attached with a rotor core 5 by first and second brackets 9 and 10 arranged in the frame 2 by first and second bearings 7 and 8, and is constituted, by installing a sheave 12 in an end part projected outside the first bearing 7 of the shaft 6. A rope winding surface 14 for arranging a plurality of rope grooves 13 in a row is formed on the outer periphery of the sheave 12. The sheave 12 has a bearing insertion part 15 for inserting the first bearing 7 into the inner peripheral side of the rope winding surface 14, and the first bearing 7 is inserted inside the bearing insertion part 15.
