<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lessen a use volume of a material for a discharge electrode, while maintaining high characteristics as an overvoltage protection component, through effective use of a material for forming the discharge electrode of such a component. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The overvoltage protection components are provided with a first discharge electrode 2 at a grounding side and a second discharge electrode 3 at a signal side opposed to each other through a discharge part 4 formed inside a base body 1. For a first effective electrode part 5 and a second effective electrode part 6 as areas in contact with the discharge part 4 at respective opposed faces, an area of the former 5 is made larger than that of the latter 6.
