<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that, in a data processing apparatus which reads a plurality of documents to generate an image file constituted of a plurality of pages, when a memory capacity is exhausted in the middle of pages or file generation is interrupted by a cancel operation, the generated file may become an incomplete file that cannot be displayed. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When a memory capacity is exhausted (S706), a data processing apparatus returns a write position so as to write the end information of a file and writes the end information.
