A system for the programme control of electric power consuming appliances and devices in an automatic machine, e.g. an automatic washing machine, includes electromechanical switching means some of which are operated by programme switching equipment, while others are operated in response to changes in physical variables, said switching means controlling the input to an electronic switching arrangement, the output of which controls the individual appliances through programmed switches. In a control system for an automatic washing machine the electromechanical switching means includes programme switches 10, 11, 12, 21 operated by a timer controlled motor 44 (Fig. 1, not shown) and controlling the spinning motor 1, the washing motor 2, a door opening device 3, and a heater 20, respectively. The switches 10, 11, 12 and 21 receive the output of two thyristors 41 connected in opposition and controlled by an electronic switching arrangement 4 comprising transistors T1 to T4. The input to the electronic switching arrangement 4 is controlled by an unbalance switch 6 responsive to the weight distribution; a temperature sensitive device 23 controlled by a switch 22; switches 8, 9, 14, 14' for changing from a normal to a gentle washing action; a water level and switch 7 associated with switches 16; 17; and switches 13, 19 selectively operable to determine a desired speed for the motor I or 2, which speed is maintained constant by a tachometer 5 in association with a rectifier device 54. |
