The component has a hood-like upper part (10) and a shell-like lower part (14) that are welded with each other along a weld seam and lie against each other at joint areas formed by wall regions of the parts. The parts are made of thermoplastic material. The wall regions are made of a material that is impenetrable for welding laser light. The wall regions are melted for welding the upper part along the seam using hot gases. The upper part is formed as a foam plastic part with gas bubbles that are filled with an inert gas i.e. nitrogen, applied on the welded plastic material of the upper part. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a fluid-guiding engine component.
