Homogeneous thermoplastic elastomeric compositions are prepared by (1) mixing (a) an aqueous vinyl or vinylidene chloride polymer dispersion with (b) an aqueous dispersion of a polyurethane derived from a polyhydroxyl compound with a molecular weight of 400- 4000, an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or araliphatic polyisocyanate and optionally a chain extender and containing a PVC stabilizer in solution or fine dispersion in the polyurethane, and (2) coagulating the mixed dispersions. The PVC stabilizer is an organic phosphite, an epoxide, an organotin compound, an alkylated phosphoric acid amide, a #-aminocrotonic acid ester, a phenol, a thiourea, an indole, an organic base, an ortho-ester, a metal soap or a basic sulphate phosphate, carbonate, or silicate of lead; a lubricant is preferably also added. They are preferably added in solution to a solution of the polyurethane followed by mixing with water and removing solvent. In examples are mixed dispersions of PVC and a polyurethane from adipic acid/ethylene glycol polyester, adipic acid/1,6 - hexanediol/neopentyl glycol polyester and 1,6-hexane diisocyanate, to which is added (1) α-phenylindole and glyceryl mono-oleate, (2) ethyl #-aminocrotonate and montan wax, (3) terephthalic acid monoester monohydrazide, (4) epoxidized soya oil, (5) di-isononyl phenyl phosphite. Coagulation is effected with a salt, e.g. a mixture of sodium and calcium chlorides. |
