PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drying machine capable of being stably operated by bringing muddy or a caked object to be treated having high moisture content and high viscosity efficiently into contact with hot air by improving dispersibility. SOLUTION: In this drying machine 1 in which the object D to be treated is fed to an outlet side by a feed lifter 27 disposed on a drum, then scraped up and dropped by a scraping-up lifter 28, crushed by a stirring member 33 disposed in the drum 2, and dried by hot air, a part of the object D of low moisture content at an outlet side of the drying machine 1 is returned to a charging side by a backward feed lifter 29 disposed in the drum 2, and thus the viscosity of the object D at the charging side is lowered, and dispersibility can be improved. The backward feed lifter 29 is disposed within a range of 30% to 90% when observed from the charging side, with respect to a length L of the drum 2, and within a range of 5°to 30°as an angle to an axis of the drum.
