PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resol type phenolic resin excellent in strength, flexibility and light color of a cured article. SOLUTION: This resol type phenolic resin contains a phenylalkylene-ether structure moiety (I) having a structure wherein a phenolic hydroxy group is etherified with an aliphatic hydrocarbon group having 2 or 3 carbon atoms in the resol type phenolic resin structure, in an amount of 2-10 moles based on 100 moles of an aromatic nucleus in the resol type phenolic resin structure, wherein pH of the resol type phenolic resin in an aqueous solution is in the range of 6-8.
