The device has two tool elements and a detachable shaping and grain-imparting lining (20) fastened to the former tool element. The device has a unit for engaging a plane, flush and edge-side deformable film (40) at the lining. The two tool elements are closed for forming a cavity between the side of the film facing the latter tool element, and the latter tool element. The latter tool element is developed for introducing engineering thermoplastics in the cavity and for forming a dimensionally stable carrier. The lining is made from a metallic material, particularly nickel or steel. An independent claim is included for a method for manufacturing dimensionally stable, visible lining components for a motor vehicle.
