<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more efficiently perform maintenance work of a space-saving type elevator. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This elevator system has: a plurality of main ropes 3 for suspending a car and a counterweight in a hoistway; a sheave 5, arranged in a hoisting machine 1, mutually formed in parallel to a side surface in the peripheral direction and respectively hooking a plurality of main ropes 3 one by one in a plurality of peripheral directional grooves 7, arranged in the rotary shaft direction; and an oil tank 11, arranged outside the side surface in the peripheral direction of the sheave 5 and storing oil 9 in the inside. Needle felt 13, having elastic characteristics and capable of infiltrating the oil 9 inside, is arranged in an upper part of the oil tank 11. The needle felt 13 is fixed, in a state of soaking one end part in the oil 9, and an opposite side end part presses the main ropes 3 in the radial direction from the side surface in the peripheral direction of the sheave 5 for preventing the main ropes 3 from slipping out of the peripheral directional grooves 7, while continuously supplying the oil 9 to the main ropes 3.
