<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve exhaust emission control efficiency by improving ignitability and stabilizing combustion, in a control device for an internal combustion engine. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This device comprises an injector 43 capable of injecting fuel to a combustion chamber 18 and a spark plug 50 capable of igniting air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber 18 by plasma discharge. ECU 71 as an ignition control means can excuse first ignition process executing plasma discharge by the spark plug 50 at a later part of a compression stroke, and a second ignition process executing plasma discharge before the first ignition process.
