PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a useful cigarette filter and the filter material which can hold smoking flavor ingredients, such as, nicotine and tar, etc., can selectively and efficiently remove formaldehyde, and will not sharpen the smoking flavor of cigarettes. SOLUTION: The cigarette filter includes the cigarette filter material consisting of porous silica, wherein the silica contains≤1 wt.% of total nitrogen content,≤20 wt.% of total carbon content, and 2-50 nm of the average pore diameter of pores and 500-1,300 m<SP>2</SP>/g of specific surface area and the pore of the porous silica has a hexagonal structure.
