The gear unit, particularly a motor vehicle gear unit has three planetary drives (P1a, P3a) arranged one behind the other along a main rotation axle (10a). Six coupling units (S1a, S2a,S5a) are provided to switch eight forward gears. A drive unit (11a) is provided, which is connected with a sun wheel (P11a) of the former planetary drive in a pivoted manner. Another drive unit (12a) is provided, which is connected with an internal gear (P23a) of the latter planetary drive and is connected with a third internal gear (P33a) of the third planetary drive in a pivoted manner.
