<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a pigment dispersion for color filters which achieves a high initial contrast ratio after cured film formation and before post-bake and which is excellent in heat resistance and storage stability, and to provided a colored composition for color filters. <P>SOLUTION: (1) The method for producing the pigment dispersion for color filters comprises: a step I of mixing and dispersing a pigment (A), a polymer (B) for pigment dispersion and an organic solvent (C) to obtain a mixture; and a step II of subjecting the obtained mixture to dispersion treatment with a media type disperser, wherein the dispersion treatment is performed in such a way that dispersion viscosity is kept at 10-120 mPa s, and during ≥60% of the dispersion treatment time, dispersion viscosity is kept at 20-100 mPa s. The treatment time ratio of [step I/step II] is 20/80 to 2/98, the weight ratio of [(A)/(B)] at the beginning of the step I is confined to 100/30 to 100/70, and the weight ratio at the end of the step II is confined to 100/30 to 100/150.
