PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method of an aliphatic diketone which can easily and economically produce the aliphatic diketone. SOLUTION: An aliphatic diiodide and ketones are reacted in the presence of an inorganic alkali compound to produce the aliphatic diketone. The aliphatic diiodide is expressed by general formula: I(CH<SB>2</SB>)<SB>n</SB>I, wherein n is an integer of≥4 and≤12. The inorganic alkali compound is expressed by general formula: MA, wherein M is an alkali metal and A is any of H, an amino, an alkoxy, a hydroxy and a carbonate group. Then, ketones are expressed by general formula: CH<SB>3</SB>COCH<SB>2</SB>COOR, wherein R is a 1-4C aliphatic alkyl group. An acetoacetic ester is used to be reacted and thereafter a decarbonation reaction is carried out to produce the aliphatic diketone easily, economically and further in a high yield.
