PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drive pinion shaft that can reduce inventory in process by reducing the number of kinds in forming intermediately-processed materials, improve work efficiency in a manufacturing process, save space, and suppress a cost increase even when an expensive material of high hardness is used for a gear part, and furthermore realize weight reduction, and to provide a manufacturing method of the drive pinion shaft. SOLUTION: The drive pinion shaft 21 is formed by forming a shaft-part raw material 121a and a gear-part raw material 121b into the intermediately-processed materials in each individual process, joining a shaft-part intermediately-processed raw material 221a and a gear-part intermediately-processed raw material 221b by friction welding to form a welded part 321, and then performing a gear cutting process to a gear part 321b in the welded part 321.
