1,195,164. Recovering metal from scrap. WOLVERHAMPTON METAL (HOLDINGS) Ltd. May 29, 1969 [April 22, 1968], No.18830/68. Heading C7D. [Also in Division B2] Metal is recovered from a composite body comprising plastics material (such as plastics covered copper cable or wire) by treating the body with a solvent or softening agent for the plastics and then separating the metal from the dissolved or softened plastics material. Specified solvents/ softening agents are tetrahydrofuran, methyl ethyl ketone, and cyclohexanone; the latter may be mixed with trihloroethylene. Where the treatment results in the softening and swelling of the plastics (which may be p.v.c. orp.v. acetate), the resulting metal/plastics mixture is separated in a tank of water, the plastics floating and the metal sinking. Treatment may be effected in liquid solvent or by suspension in hot solvent vapours.
|
