<p>Butt jointing section of (plastic) tubing or conduit by sandwiching the parting line between an interior hoop element and an external collar assembled from a series of moulded segments which each comprise a curved section which seats on the pipe surface and which has end walls of sloping height which can be clamped by a conical section retaining band. One of the walls should have a turned lip to overlap a wall on one of the adjacent segments: pref. the lip extends far enough to overlap both rising walls of one of the adjacent segments and alllow the overlapped lips to be bolted or stuck together to form a stiff, strong double-walled structure overlapping the tube parting line. Esp. useful for coupling piping to obtain self-supporting structures such as chemical ducting or exhaust flues. Pref. the external self-overlapping segments are derived from filament reinforced resin extrudates to obtain the necessary strength and dimensional consistency with minimum weight and fabrication costs.</p> |
