The method involves transferring a reference value of a position of an actuating element (2) of a processing unit (1) from a host computer (5) to a display panel (3), which is attached to the actuating element. The reference value and a value of the position of the actuating element are displayed on the display field. The actuating element is manually adjusted till the value and the reference value coincide. Information about the actuating element to be adjusted is additionally displayed on a display (8), which is provided at the host computer. An independent claim is also included for a processing machine for processing of workpieces comprising a processing unit.
