The safety system protects personnel 6 from mechanical vehicles 5 by providing radio ID tags to the personnel, possibly integrated in a hardhat 1. The tags communicate with a beacon unit 2 on the vehicle. If a tag is detected within a range (see figs 5 to 9) both the operator of the vehicle 4 and tag wearer 6 receive warning notifications. The system also has a control unit 3 on the vehicle which prevents it's use without detecting the presence of a designated driver tag. Operators may select through the control unit pre-determined safe ranges (see figs 5-9) or different tag may be assigned different rage privileges. The tags may also have the ability to hail the vehicle operator. A central logging means records event data, preferably collected via each control unit of each vehicle and allows for subsequent analysis. Beacons and control units may additionally be provide away from vehicles at dangerous fixed locations. |
