BENZYLATED POLYALKYLENE POLYAMINES AND USES THEREOF

PURPOSE: Benzylated polyalkylene polyamines are provided to ensure excellent compatibility with an amine curing agent and epoxy resin, to reduce smoke or fog while not requiring the aging time of a hardener-epoxy resin mixture. CONSTITUTION: A curing agent composition comprising (a) at least one benzylated polyalkylene polyamine having at least three nitrogen atoms, at least three active amine hydrogen atoms and at least one benzyl group and (b) at least one multifunctional amine having 3 or more active amine hydrogens. The at least one benzylated polyalkylene polyamine comprises the reductive amination product of a benzaldehyde compound with at least one polyalkylene polyamine. The at least one polyalkylene polyamine compound is diethylenetriamine(DETA), triethylenetetramine(TETA), tetraethylenepentamine(TEPA), pentaethylenehexamine(PEHA), dipropylenetriamine, tripropylenetetramine, or any combination thereof.
