[Also in Division A5] A process for producing small disc-shaped particles of uniform size containing enzymes embedded in a semi-permeable carrier material, comprises the steps of (A) converting the enzymes and the carrier material into threads; (B) embedding the resulting threads parallel to each other in a hardenable embedding material; (C) cutting the solidified bedding material in cross-direction to the threads into thin slices, and (D) separating the bedding material from the disc-shaped particles cut from the thread. The thread material may be coated on to a centrally located core thread to improve its stability characteristics. Suitable enzymes include esterases, carbohydrases, amidasea, hydrolases, anhydrid phosphatases and amino acid-decarboxylases.
