PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a speed-change controller for an automatic transmission gearshift controller by which sufficient improvements can be attained in drive force and fuel consumption by making the smooth transition from a manual to an automatic variable speed mode. SOLUTION: There is provided the speed-change controller for the automatic transmission equipped with the automatic variable speed mode for judging a speed-change stage or a gear ratio to be set based on a traveling condition to perform a speed-change operation and the manual variable speed mode for performing a speed-change operation directed by a manual operation of a driver. The speed-change controller for the automatic transmission includes a cruising travel judging means for judging a cruising travel condition from an accelerator operation of the driver and a change in car speed, and a manual variable speed mode releasing means for making the transition from the manual variable speed mode to the automatic variable speed mode when the cruising travel condition of the car has been judged during the manual variable speed mode by the cruising travel judging means.
