[Also in Division C7] A magnetic data store medium consists of a substrate coated with a magnetic ternary alloy of Co, W and P having a substantially rectangular hysteresis cycle. The substrate may be a metal or a dielectric, in the form of a disc, drum tape or sheet, and the magnetic layer may be 3000 Š-6000 Š thick. The alloy, e.g. 90-92% Co, 6-10% W, 0À5-3% P by wt. is deposited by immersing the substrate in an aqueous bath containing one or more Co salts, e.g. cobalt sulphate, one or more tungsten salts, e.g. sodium tungstate, and sodium hypophosphite. A complexing agent e.g. Rochelle salt may be present. The bath is maintained at pH 8À4-9 e.g. by addition of ammonia, and at 75-85‹ C. |
