A moulded body (1) for improving the cultivating conditions of plants that is suitable for being disposed in a planting container (3), inter alia, comprises a tapering projection (15), more particularly in the shape of a cone or of an upwardly open truncated cone. It is disposed such that the projection extends into the plant substrate (60) contained in the planting container (3), more particularly from the bottom or from the surface thereof. The projection (15) comprises means (apertures (35; 54), highly porous material) for providing an exchange of substances, more particularly an exchange of water and/or air, between the interior and the area surrounding the projection. A controlled supply of air, water, nutrients and additives to the interior of the plant substrate and particularly to the root ball (61) is thereby possible. The moulded body for insertion from below comprises a depression provided opposite the projection and serving as a water reservoir that is separated from the plant substrate. The moulded body (46) for insertion from above is water-permeable in the upper portion (55), i.e. at the foot of the projection, and essentially water-impermeable near the apex of the projection, a transport of liquid from the lower portion (53) to the upper portion (55) preferably being effected by capillary forces. |
