PURPOSE: An image processing apparatus and a control method thereof are provided to enable a motion compensation process according to the property of input images. CONSTITUTION: A primary and a secondary image processing unit(200,300) process a first image or a second image which is overlaid with the first image. A motion compensating unit(500) enables a process compensation process based on the motion of the image on the overlaid image with which the first image or the first and the second image are overlaid. In case the amount of the motion change of the image which is processed by the primary and the secondary image processing unit is greater than a preset first value, the motion compensating unit determines the image as the overlaid image.
