A propellent composition comprises ammonium nitrate and active carbon, in a total amount of 86-93% by weight, and a densensitizing additive in an amount of 7-14% by weight; 83-95% ammonium nitrate and 5-17% active carbon are present based on the combined weight of these two substances. Densensitizing additives are ammonium oxalate, sodium oxalate, ammonium adipate, potassium tartrate, sodium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, urea, a carbamate, or graphite. A small quantity of vanadium pentoxide or cupric oxide may be added as a combustion accelerator. |
