<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a synchronous motor which can easily adjust torque and generate a large torque. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A rotor 7 of the synchronous motor 1 includes many segments 11 arranged with a predetermined pitch in a circumferential direction; inter-segment magnets 13 disposed between segment gaps 12 adjacent in the circumferential direction and used to magnetize in reverse the segments 11 on both sides of the circumferential direction; and a magnetic field coil 14 wound around each of the segments 11. The segments 11 each have a concave portion 110 on the center of the circumferential direction, and a pair of magnetic salient pole portions 111, individually disposed on both the sides of the circumferential direction of the concave portion 110, and the magnetic field coil 14 is wound around the magnetic field coil 110. This configuration enables the synchronous motor which facilitates torque control that generates magnetic torque, reluctance torque and magnetic field current torque, and has a torque control current which is small.
