<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeding device capable of preventing the double feeding of recording mediums with high precision, and to provide a recording device equipped with the paper feeding device. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This automatic paper feeding device 13 provided in a printer is provided with a paper guide 17, a paper feeding roller 23 having a circumferential face 23a, a guide roller 25 having a circumferential face 25a having higher hardness than that of the circumferential face 23a, a gate member 29 having an inclined face 29a, and a coil spring capable of energizing the gate member 29 in a direction approaching the circumferential face 25a. The circumferential face 23a is abutted on the uppermost paper P among the papers P put on the paper guide 17, and the paper feeding roller 23 feeds it in the direction for feeding the paper P. The uppermost paper P which is fed by the paper feeding roller 23 and whose chip is collided with the inclined face 29a moves the gate member 29 so that a clearance allowing only the uppermost paper P to pass through is formed between the circumferential face 25a and the gate member 29 for separation.
